If they were teachers in 1766, they weren’t admitting it! We know that William Roscoe was taught by Mr Martin of Paradise St from around 1859 - 1861 and by Mr Kykes, at the same address, from 1861 - 1865. This may well be the same Mr Sykes as listed here. Searched for school, teacher, governess, tutor, professor, academy and college. Even the Blue Coat School - built some 50 or 60 years earlier - is not listed. Ah well!
